Bringing Back 960 Hours of My Life
I'm a corporate zombie who comes back to life every time I pick up a paintbrush, mix colors, open my sketchbook, or stand in front of a canvas. I grew up in the Philippines, and for a long time, I never imagined wanting to leave. But one day, while stuck in a two-hour commute to work, I realized I was losing 960 hours a year just sitting in traffic. That's the equivalent of 40 days, or one and a half months of my life spent inside a jeepney, waiting to get to work or make it back home. I became convinced that I wanted to make those 960 hours worthwhile. So when the opportunity came, I moved to Malta and began exploring Europe. Eventually, I settled in the Czech Republic, and it was here that I rediscovered my love for sketching and painting. With less time spent commuting and more time gifted back to me, I returned to something that had always brought me joy and calmness. I still haven't left the corporate world, and it can still be exhausting especially with everything happening in the world today. But every time I paint or sketch, I'm reminded that every stroke can change the outcome. Even small imperfect lines are steps that change the bigger picture long before we can see it. Through my work, I hope to share a little of that feeling with others. If life ever feels overwhelming and you start to feel stuck, I hope art interrupts you for a moment and reminds you that every line and every stroke moves you forward.
